Kindness = Happiness

Martin Luther King Jr. quote about finding happiness in helping others. Inspirational, motivational & positive encouragement for daily life.

This pic from@quote.niche on Instagram really struck a chord with me today…one of those days when you feel like it’s taking all of your energy to keep your head above water, meanwhile the waves just keep coming…how do you keep up the positive, ‘can do’ attitude, you will need to survive the trials ahead? I don’t have all the answers (which is one of the reasons I like to collect quotes), but I do know from experience that whenever I’ve felt the most downhearted, the one thing that lifted me out of my funk faster than anything else was to do something kind for someone else. So, that’s what I’m going to do. And if you’re feeling a little blue, I encourage you to try it too. Let’s make the world a better place together.

‘All Things Fall’ Free Printable Chalkboard Art by Shalom Schultz Designs

All Things Fall Free Printable Chalkboard Art by Shalom Schultz Designs. Autumn illustration decor. Country cottage style rustic decorating. Falling leaves and acorns. Black and White.

Someone asked me the other day what my favorite part of fall was and I simply could not come up with just one answer. There is so much to enjoy – hot cider & warm blankets, tall boots & cozy sweaters, pumpkin patches & bonfires, colorful trees & jumping in leaves…
I love absolutely everything about autumn and make it a point to pack in as much of the seasonal fun as I can each year, since it goes by way too fast (and before you know it, we’re counting down the days to Christmas and dreading having to shovel snow for the next 4 months). As I was thinking about what to draw on the little framed chalkboard that sits on my hall shelf year-round, the idea of this ‘All Things Fall’ illustration came to me.

If you feel the same way as I do, you can download the printable version of my chalk art for FREE and enjoy it in your own home! Click here for the PDF file (includes an 8×10 print, a 5×7 print, and a 4×5.25 folded greeting card which will fit in a standard A2 size envelope).

I’d love to know what you think or to hear about your favorite part of the fall season. Feel free to share your thoughts by commenting below. And have a Happy Fall!!

Fall is for Family Time

White Fireplace decorated for autumn with a grapevine wreath and a sign that says family. Firewood piled up ready for cooler days. Fall leaves and berries. Family comes first. Country cottage style rustic decor.

I love the simplicity of this photo ( @countrylivingmag on Instagram) & the timely reminder that even as our lives become busier with the approaching holiday festivities, at the end of the day all that really matters is family. So make sure that you put them first, cherish every fleeting moment & don’t stress too much about the little things.

We All Have The Same 24 Hours

24 hours in a day motivational time management quote by Shalom Schultz Designs. Do what you love & follow your dream. Daily challenge for artists and entrepreneurs. Inspiration for small business, women & those who work from home.

This has been my daily challenge for this year. As a stay-at-home/work-at-home mom (who also holds down a part time job to help pay the bills) it is much harder than it sounds. But I’m learning that if I make it a priority (the dishes can wait for an hour while I sit down & sketch something) more often than not it actually happens. I’m making progress towards my big life goals and I’m happier for it.

Not So Spooky Halloween Mantel

Fall mantel decor with country cottage style vibe, featuring autumn leaves in a mason jar, wicker and handmade fabric pumpkins, mercury glass votives and an antique frame. A black raven bird and dark brown candlesticks with black taper candles add a touch of Halloween fun to this warm & cozy decorating scheme. By Shalom Schultz Designs.

For some reason it is REALLY hard to find decorative black birds, so I had to make my own by getting creative with a paper mache egg, masking tape & fabric (Who knew I could sculpt…sort of?). While I’m not into super spooky/gross Halloween decorating with spiders & such (I have enough of the real kind, thank you very much), I do enjoy incorporating a subtle nod to horror into my fall decor. So for me, the little black ‘raven’ and matching taper candles give my fall mantel just the right touch of spine-chilling fun while not taking away from the warm and inviting scene that I look forward to creating each year.
